Why this material, scale, sequence or finish? The artist's answer can reveal what belongs to intention and what arose from production limits.
Process supports authentication
Source files, studio photographs, edition approvals and fabrication records can connect the object to the artist. They complement rather than replace physical examination.
Process improves care
Knowing how layers, joins, pigments or finishes were made helps conservators and owners avoid inappropriate treatment.
Process should not become mythology
Use direct artist statements and documented observation. Do not invent struggle, healing or cultural symbolism because it makes the work easier to sell.
