How Do You Choose Art for a Large Wall?
A large wall needs proportion and presence, but scale alone cannot rescue an artwork without visual authority. A collector-led guide grounded in material, evidence and lived experience.
Decide the wall's role
Some large walls need a focal work. Others need rhythm across distance or deliberate emptiness. Name the architectural task before shopping by dimensions.
Mock up at full size
Use paper, tape or projected outlines. Include frame or display edges, not only the image. Walk toward the wall from every entrance.
Coordinate lighting and structure
Large works can expose uneven light and weak fixings. Confirm backing, load path, access equipment and maintenance before delivery.
Protect the work from scale theater
Bigger is not automatically more important. The artwork must remain compelling at close range after it wins the distant view.
